smalltalk was developed by the Parenting Research Centre (PRC), the only national independent research and development organisation in Australia with an exclusive focus on parenting.

Established in 1997, the PRC supports parents to raise happy, healthy children by:

  • seeking and sharing scientific knowledge of effective parenting
  • developing research-based practical solutions to contemporary parenting challenges
  • building the capability of the community to support parents.

We believe that parenting has a critical impact on the quality of life and the health and wellbeing of children. By developing parenting skills in the community we reduce harm and protect children’s safety, thereby ensuring a positive future for the next generation.

We believe that developing scientific knowledge about parenting can make a difference in the everyday lives of families when it is translated effectively into usable information, public policy and professional practice.
